Final Design
This is my final pattern design. I built upon my earlier trials by adding the extra element of opacity to various shapes which I think worked really effectively giving the pattern more depth without taking away from the original design.
Instructions: Start with an unmarked grid made up of squares. In the top left square draw a black triangle with its base side equal to and along the length of the base of the square and it's point coming together at the top of the centre edge of the square. Now make a copy of this triangle, lower it's opacity to 50% and rotate 90 degrees. Next, create a white triangle exactly half the size of the original black one, rotate 180 degrees and place with its top (now at the bottom) point touching the centre of the base edge of the square. To complete the square, make another copy of the triangle with its opacity at 50% and layer it over the top. Move one square to the right and draw the same design in it except this time rotated 90 degrees. Continue this on indefinately, with each square to the right rotating the design 90 degrees. For the next grid layer down, copy the original design of the top left square and rotate it 90 degrees and then paste it one under the original. Move one square to the right and draw the same design in it again, rotated 90 degrees. Continue this on indefinately. Repeat.
Below are the steps used to create my initial shape.
Development
After my initial sketches I continued my development using the computer so I could more efficiently pump out ideas. These are all based off my initial triangle/rotation pattern just using different combinations of shapes and sizes. Although they all still have simple triangle elements I was pleasantly surprised at how complex and unrecognisable the patterns became with repitition
